Happy Valentine's Day...God is LOVE PERFECTED!

Oh, how I used to dread this holiday! The very thought of it would fill me with such repulsion. It was just a stupid holiday conjured up by the card companies. I mean, if you really loved a person shouldn’t you let them know that more than just one designated day? Shouldn’t you be trying to share your love for that person every day in some small little way? You may ask, did you ever have someone on Valentine’s Day, and I would have to say, “No!” I have to admit it might have changed my thoughts on this somewhat dreaded holiday. However, it is Valentine’s once again and I’m once again single and REALLY alright with it. I also feel the need to share that I have really been looking forward to this day and actually enjoying the festivities. Whether it is teaching my children the love of Jesus and celebrating with them, or just thinking of Valentine’s in a different way. My opinion is that life is far too short to be bitter and cynical, look at each day as a blessing from on high. God is going to teach me something about today. I have sought love and satisfaction from human love, and He wants to teach me about REAL LOVE, His love. His love that is perfected! He that is and always will be the definition of TRUE LOVE! He loves deeper, cares more, desires all of us, and wants to pour out that love upon us. He that laid down His life for a conversation with me, He that is preparing a glorious place for me, He that has promised to come back for me, and that His love will never end, never be all poured out, never stop just because of what I do, when I run He will wait, when I return He will run after me. He is always with me, always seeking me, always pursuing me, always wooing me. He is the reason for Valentine’s Day and every day that is to follow.

How deep is God’s love for us? It is beyond all our reasoning. He does not love with human love, we don’t understand fully that He loves unceasingly because we compare His love to human love. We think when the rough times come His love will run out. It NEVER EVER EVER does. As I watched “The Last Sin Eater” I spent most of the movie praising God and wishing that everyone could know the Lord in a personal and intimate way. Do we as Christians really realize what we have? God said I love you so much that I will take time to create you…

Then something truly astonishing takes place. God sets his own image on the earth. He creates a being like himself…

The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. – Gen. 2:7 NKJV

It is worth noting here the glorious intimacy of man’s creation. All the rest of God’s masterpiece sprang into being merely from God speaking it to be. “Then God spoke…” But when it came time for God to create his image bearers, he formed them with his own hands. He breathed life into them himself. (Captivating Journal, Eldredge, p. 26-27)

Then, if that wasn’t enough God humbled all his glory, majesty, power, and sovereignty, and became a mere man. He walked among us and felt fully what it was like to be human, just to spend time with us…

1It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love. – John 13:1 (When Jesus washed the disciples feet…)

He loved deeply and fully. When He had done all He was set out to do on Earth, he laid down his life, his ultimate sacrifice and purpose, to PROVE to us that His love for us was real and just for us. He gave His life to be with us.

16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16

The journey of God’s love is far reaching and beyond any human comprehension. Christ didn’t say that we were to understand it, but just to receive. I have and still do spend so much of my time as a Christian trying to earn His love. It is something that isn’t earned. It is just something that is. In this I must rest…we all must have rest. The love of Jesus is definitely something to celebrate this Valentine’s Day.

More scripture of God’s love:

11 I went down to the grove of nut trees
to look at the new growth in the valley,
to see if the vines had budded
or the pomegranates were in bloom.
12 Before I realized it,
my desire set me among the royal chariots of my people.
Song of Solomon 6: 11-12

20"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: 23I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. 24"Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. 25"Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them."
John 17: 20-26

1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good.
His love endures forever.
2 Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.
3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.
Psalm 136: 1-3
