Overcoming Arrows with the Sword!
In the Sacred Romance we are asked what arrows have effected us most, what are those that have been implanted in our hearts at a very young age, and then we are asked to combat them with scripture. I did that this morning and just wanted to show you what I found:
INSECURE (stand up for yourself)
Jeremiah 1: 16-19 (Amplified)
16And I will utter My judgments against them for all the wickedness of those who have forsaken Me, burned incense to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands [idols].
17But you [Jeremiah], gird up your loins! Arise and tell them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed and break down at the sight of their faces, lest I confound you before them and permit you to be overcome.
18For I, behold, I have made you this day a fortified city and an iron pillar and bronze walls against the whole land--against the [successive] kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land [giving you divine strength which no hostile power can overcome].
19And they shall fight against you, but they shall not [finally] prevail against you, for I am with you, says the Lord, to deliver you.
FREAK (not acceptable)
2 Corinthians 8: 11-13 (The Message)
11Your heart's been in the right place all along. You've got what it takes to finish it up, so go to it. 12Once the commitment is clear, you do what you can, not what you can't. The heart regulates the hands. 13This isn't so others can take it easy while you sweat it out. No, you're shoulder to shoulder with them all the way,
GHOST, FATTY, UGLY, FRIZZY HAIR (makes me feel ugly and disgusting and unworthy of love.)
Psalm 45: 10-12 (NIV)
10 Listen, O daughter, consider and give ear:
Forget your people and your father's house.
11 The king is enthralled by your beauty;
honor him, for he is your lord.
12 The Daughter of Tyre will come with a gift,
men of wealth will seek your favor.
Song of Songs 6: 4-5 (New Living Translation)
4O my beloved, you are as beautiful as the lovely town of Tirzah.
Yes, as beautiful as Jerusalem!
You are as majestic as an army with banners!
5Look away, for your eyes overcome me!
Your hair falls in waves, like a flock of goats frisking down the slopes of Gilead.
LOST (You will never have purpose!)
Exodus 9:16 (New King James Version)
16 But indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.
Psalm 57: 1-3 (Amplified)
1BE MERCIFUL and gracious to me, O God, be merciful and gracious to me, for my soul takes refuge and finds shelter and confidence in You; yes, in the shadow of Your wings will I take refuge and be confident until calamities and destructive storms are passed.
2I will cry to God Most High, Who performs on my behalf and rewards me [Who brings to pass His purposes for me and surely completes them]!
3He will send from heaven and save me from the slanders and reproaches of him who would trample me down or swallow me up, and He will put him to shame. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]! God will send forth His mercy and loving-kindness and His truth and faithfulness.
Psalm 138 (New Living Translation)
1 I give you thanks, O LORD, with all my heart;
I will sing your praises before the gods.
2 I bow before your holy Temple as I worship.
I will give thanks to your name
for your unfailing love and faithfulness,
because your promises are backed
by all the honor of your name.
3 When I pray, you answer me;
you encourage me by giving me the strength I need.
4 Every king in all the earth will give you thanks, O LORD,
for all of them will hear your words.
5 Yes, they will sing about the LORD's ways,
for the glory of the LORD is very great.
6 Though the LORD is great, he cares for the humble,
but he keeps his distance from the proud.
7 Though I am surrounded by troubles,
you will preserve me against the anger of my enemies.
You will clench your fist against my angry enemies!
Your power will save me.
8 The LORD will work out his plans for my life--
for your faithful love, O LORD, endures forever.
Don't abandon me, for you made me.
